Canadian Macedonian Historical Society

The Canadian Macedonian Historical Society is a non-profit, charitable organization, incorporated under the Ontario Corporations Act, supported by volunteers and funded through programmed events and donations.

The Society provides all Canadians, especially those of Macedonian descent, with a true perspective of Macedonian history and culture.

Established in 1991, the Society is today the nerve centre of academic and social activity. Membership is growing rapidly and attracting energetic professionals.

The Society is developing a greater awareness and pride amongst its members and within the entire Canadian community as to who we are, where we came from, and where we are going.

The aims of the Society are to:

Chronicle and describe the Canadian Macedonian historical experience;

Record the achievements of Canadian Macedonians over time and place;
Document the traditions, culture, religion, language and history of the Macedonian people in Canada;
Compile and record the participation and contributions of Canadian Macedonian veterans during the wars;
Support and assist in the accurate presentation of Macedonian history;
Recognize outstanding Canadians of Macedonian descent for their contribution to the Canadian community;
Promote public interest in the history of Macedonian and Canadian Macedonian experiences by encountering research therein;
Initiate and promote Macedonian historical and archaeological research;
Establish and maintain a permanent centre with a library and museum; and
Support other complementary purposes consistent with these objectives.

A resource centre and office have been set up in Canadian Macedonian Place, with their full support and co-operation. Here are textbooks, photographs, national folk costumes and textiles, art, video and computerized records and documentation, all of which are accessible to students and the public for study and research.

On-going lectures on Macedonian history and culture, including keynote speakers, continue to flourish.
